Post-Processing

From manufacturing to ready-for-use condition.

Surface preparation, deburring, cleaning, insert installation and dimensional inspection tailored to the component requirements.

Runplast post-processing

The manufacturing process doesn't always end at the machine.

Selecting the right manufacturing technology is not always enough to produce the final component. Burrs, surface irregularities or process residues can be a natural part of manufacturing.

These do not necessarily indicate manufacturing defects, but the technical, visual and functional requirements of the finished part may require additional processing.

At Runplast, post-processing is treated as an integral part of manufacturing, with the aim of bringing the finished component as close as possible to its specified final condition.

RUNPLAST / POST-PROCESSING

Five typical post-processing operations. Always tailored to the component.

Not every component requires the same finishing operations. The required steps are selected according to material, geometry, surface, fit and quality requirements.

01

Abrasive blasting

The surface can be cleaned, homogenised and prepared for further finishing processes.

This can be particularly important before painting, bonding or applying coatings.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
  • Surface homogenisation
  • Paint preparation
  • Bonding preparation
  • Visual improvement
02

Deburring

Removing burrs, edges and residual material helps ensure accurate fit and safe use.

The operation is carried out while preserving geometry and function.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
  • Mating surfaces
  • Assembly points
  • Edges and contours
  • Functional components
03

Chemical cleaning

Oils, dust, process aids and other contaminants are removed before the next production step.

The cleaning process is adapted to the material and intended use.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
  • Before painting
  • Before bonding
  • Before assembly
  • Before surface treatment
04

Insert installation

Metal inserts can create stronger, more durable and load-resistant connection points.

Especially useful for threaded, rotating or frequently assembled joints.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
  • Threaded connections
  • Pivot points
  • Frequent assembly
  • Loaded holes
05

Dimensional inspection

Critical dimensions and geometric features can be verified against technical documentation and tolerances.

This provides objective and traceable information about component conformity.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
  • Critical dimensions
  • Fits
  • Tolerances
  • Documented inspection

Not sure what post-processing is required?Let's review the component.

Send us the drawing, 3D model or a photo of the finished part, and we can review the required surface preparation, assembly and inspection steps.

Let's discuss it

What post-processing does the component require?

The extent of post-processing always depends on the manufacturing technology, material, geometry and final use of the component.

The goal is not to add as many finishing operations as possible, but only those genuinely required to achieve the desired technical and visual condition.

RUNPLAST / FINISHED COMPONENT
01
Manufacturing process

A 3D printed, vacuum cast, RIM moulded or injection moulded component may require different finishing operations.

02
Material

The process must be adapted to the material properties, sensitivity and intended use.

03
Geometry

Accessibility, critical surfaces and assembly points determine what can be done.

04
Accuracy

Fits and dimensional tolerances may require additional inspection or machining.

05
Surface

Future painting, bonding or visual requirements determine the necessary preparation.

06
End use

The actual operating environment determines the required final condition.

After manufacturing to the required final condition.

01Component

Assessment of the manufactured part, its geometry and requirements.

02Preparation

Cleaning, deburring or surface homogenisation as required.

03Functional post-processing

Insert installation, assembly operations or additional processing tailored to the application.

04Inspection

Verification of critical dimensions and quality requirements.

Series-produced component?We make post-processing repeatable too.

For low and medium-volume production, consistent post-processing can be just as important to a stable manufacturing process as the primary production technology.

Post-processing is not cosmetic. It's part of final quality.

A high-quality final product is not the result of a single manufacturing step.

Manufacturing technology, material, process parameters, post-processing and inspection form one connected workflow.

The objective is to deliver the component in a condition that meets its specified technical and end-use requirements.
